Smoking Salvia divinorum

Smoking Salvia

is the most common method of use because it is so easy to do. It is generally accepted as the best way to get the full effects of this herb.

1.) Salvia divinorum is placed in a pipe or waterpipe (bong) with a screen so that the herb does not fall through into the piece.

2.) Use a torch-flame lighter or a bic ligher to ignite the herb (do not use matches). The Salvia must be inhaled all at once, so light up and take one deep inhalation using the entire bowl.

3.) Hold the smoke in for at least 20 seconds and exhale slowly.

4.) Effects will be felt in less than a minute.

Extracted Leaf

Salvia extracted leaves are more powerful than plain leaves. This is because the leaves are fortified with extra Salvinorin A extracted from other leaves, causing a more intense experience and thus the name Salvia extract. Doses for smoking extracted leaf are as follows:

5x, 10x, 20x, etc.

  • Small: .10g (1/10g)
  • Medium: .25g (¼g)
  • Heavy: .50g+ (½g+)

*5x means "five times more powerful than plain leaf." The "x" tells how much stronger an extract is than plain leaf. 10x is ten times more powerful than plain leaf, and so on.

Standardized v.s. Non-standardized

There are two types of Salvia extract: standardized and non-standardized. Standardized extract has an exact amount of Salvinorin A per gram of leaf. Ex. 25mg of Salvinorin A per 1g of leaf. The process of extracting a precise amount of Salvinorin A onto the leaves results in a higher price for the finished product. This is why standardized extract is usually higher priced than non-standardized.

Non-standardized extract has no precise amount of Salvinorin A per gram. This means you may get more or less active ingredient than in standardized extract.

Plain Leaf

Smoking Salvia can also be done with fresh or dried leaves. The effects will be rather mild compared to extracts. Doses for smoking Salvia plain leaves are as follows:
  • Small: .25g (¼g)
  • Medium: .50g (½g)
  • Heavy: .75g+ (¾g+)
