Salvia Tincture
The Salvia tincture I will review and describe is called Sage Goddess Emerald Essence®. It is created by
Daniel Siebert
(an independent researcher and the first person to identify Salvinorin A as the active psychoactive principal in Salvia divinorum).
This tincture may be purchased directly from Daniel Siebert's online shop,
Sage Wisdom Botanicals.
This tincture comes with two droppers (one for the tincture and one for the hot water to dilute with.) It also comes with instructions on correct usage and dosages. The
dosage table
for this tincture shows exactly how many uses are present in one bottle and how much of the product is used in a mild, moderate, and heavy dose.
Sublingual Absorption
The tincture is held in the mouth until the Salvinorin A has been absorbed by the tissues of the mouth. This is called sublingual absorption. The most common method of use involves mixing the dose of tincture in a shot glass with an equal amount of hot water. Hold the combined mixture in your mouth, without swallowing, until desired effects have been achieved or until 30 minutes have passed, whichever comes first. Hold your tongue above the floor of your mouth to allow the tissues under your tongue to absorb the Salvinorin. When complete either swallow the mixture or spit it out, either one works.
Dilution of the fluid extract in hot water is recommended. If it is not diluted it can be irritating to the mouth causing an unpleasant burning sensation. This is due to the tincture's high alcohol content.
Effects
Effects begin 4-8 minutes after initially holding the mixture of tincture and water in the mouth, gradually increasing over the next 5 minutes. After 15 mintues total the effects will be strongest and this plateau will last for 20-30 mintues, slowly fading over the next 30-60 mintues. The experience will be one associated with Salvia, even though there is a high alcohol content in the tincture. The alcohol is only present as a solvent.
Salvia tincture
gives the same effects as chewing plain leaves, but the dosage can be adjusted more precisely, allowing the user to experiment with exactly how much it takes to have a breakthrough. Also the effects arrive faster using the tincture and the taste is definitely more tolerable than chewing plain leaves.
Effects from this tincture are generally considered more insightful than those from smoked Salvia divinorum. This is because the tincture provides a less intense and longer lasting experience than smoked Salvia. Multiple doses and booster doses can be used to increase the length of the experience and also to intensify it as it slowly fades.
Mild doses of this product are known to calm the mind and greatly aid in the process of meditation and introspection. Moderate doses will have very theraputic effects and will increase memory recall, allowing the user to experience memories from childhood. Heavy doses will produce vivid insights and visions and will completely immerse the user in an altered state of reality.
The only negative effect associated with the tincture is a burning sensation in the mouth if it is not properly diluted with water. This is easily prevented by using a 1:1 ratio of tincture to water, no matter the size of the dose.
Create Your Own Salvia divinorum Tincture
I have found two articles discussing how to create your own Salvia tincture at home:
This article outlines the steps involved in the creation of a Salvia tincture using acetone. It also follows the author as he samples his work while recording the effects.
Written by an anonymous author, this guide gives very detailed steps and provides helpful photos on how to make your own Salvia tincture. This guide will show you the process of creating a Salvia tincture from beginning to end.

While premade Salvia divinorum tinctures are available for purchase online, if you have the desire to make your own tincture I would highly recommend it. It is a great learning experience and the knowledge will follow you throughout your journey with this incredible sage. Creating your own Salvia tincture is also more economical and cost-effective than buying premade tincture online. The tools required to make your own tincture (micropipettes, blotters, etc.) are available on eBay and at science supply shops nationwide.
